What’s in Little Italy?
February 14, 2024Millionaire’s Row Amenities Comparison
March 13, 2024If you’ve walked around Little Italy surely you’ve noticed the plaques that say “Jonathan Segal FAIA” on some of the area’s most unique buildings. That’s because Mr. Segal and his firm have developed over 300 residential and mixed-use units around San Diego. Mr Segal has pioneered the “Architect as Developer” role which allows him to build exactly what he designs with no compromises or client holdups. That must make him the envy of his peers to not have to deal with clients. Apparently there is a growing market for that role too, as he has created an entire course to help others do the same.
Some of our favorite Segal developments include The Q (and not just because Underbelly is on the first floor) and The Continental (which is home to the fabulous new BonJour French bakery). And don’t miss the striking Mr Robinson in Hillcrest. Who says you have to go to Palm Springs to find cool modern architecture?
In addition to some of the most strikingly cool apartment buildings in town, the Segal firm has also built some fantastic city homes and townhomes. Occasionally they come up for sale but not often. Like other works of fine art most of the owners are loathe to part ways with their Segal homes unless they have to. Your best bet is to keep an eye on Kettner Row, which is comprised of 16 three-story townhomes. If you’d like us to set up a search for you that will alert you when a new Segal residence hits the market just let us know. We’re here to help.
